My Philosophy

My interest in nutrition began ten years ago with my decision to become a vegetarian. Growing up on the Chesapeake Bay, I saw the negative effects of factory farming first hand and wanted to take a stand. I chose to reduce my ecological footprint by changing my diet. As I plunged into the world of healthy eating, I realized the flaws in our food system and became an active proponent within the food movement. Although I am no longer a vegetarian, I am an environmentalist at heart. In my practice I honor the ethical treatment of animals and support sustainable agriculture. My eclectic experience organizing political campaigns, managing Bay Area restaurants, and getting dirty on an organic cacao farm in Hawaii grants me a deep understanding of the effort it takes to create change. I’ve learned that change starts from within, and we must model the behavior we wish to see in the world. Megan Knipp Nutrition is a source of wisdom for those who seek healing through food, for those who seek to make a change. I provide a range of healing opportunities from individual nutrition counseling, meal planning and delivery, educational workshops, and corporate wellness programs.

Healing Through Food

My health philosophy goes beyond personal health and considers the health of our community. In an attempt to evolve and sustain ourselves, we have created a food system that leaves our community sick, overfed and undernourished. I’ve witnessed time and time again the acceptance of chronic health issues, no matter how acute, as status quo. Of course some health problems are more complex than others. I am not trying to belittle anyone’s suffering or attack modern medicine. Simply acknowledging that the hustle of daily life, coupled with the convenience of taking a pill, can overshadow the importance of nutrition. I believe that once an individual agrees to treat food as a safe and powerful form of healing, then many of our personal and collective health issues will subside.

SOUL FOOD: The Eating for Health Model

Nutrition means much more than counting calories and cutting back on bread. Nutrition means nourishing our bodies to achieve optimal health. As a Certified Holistic Nutrition Consultant, I wish to empower people to take control of their personal health and the health of their community through the food they purchase, produce, and eat. My model it is not based on the corporate influenced guide to health or latest fad. It is based on the Eating for Health Model developed by Ed Bauman, founder of Bauman College. A whole foods approach to nutrition that focuses on seasonal, organic, unprocessed, local ingredients, aka SOUL FOOD.
